একটি দেশের পরিবেশগত ভারসাম্য রক্ষার জন্য মোট আয়তনের অন্তত ২৫ শতাংশ বনভূমি থাকা আবশ্যক। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশে এর পরিমাণ চাহিদার তুলনায় অনেক কম। বৃক্ষ কার্বন ডাই-অক্সাইড শোষণ করে এবং অক্সিজেন সরবরাহ করে পরিবেশকে শীতল ও বাসযোগ্য রাখে। এছাড়া মাটির ক্ষয়রোধ ও ঝড়-জলোচ্ছ্বাস প্রতিরোধে বৃক্ষ ঢাল হিসেবে কাজ করে।

পরিবেশ বিপর্যয় থেকে দেশকে রক্ষা করতে হলে সরকারি ও বেসরকারি উদ্যোগে দেশব্যাপী ব্যাপক বনায়ন কর্মসূচি গ্রহণ করতে হবে। উপকূলীয় অঞ্চল, রাস্তার দুপাশ ও পতিত জমিতে প্রচুর পরিমাণে ফলদ, বনজ ও ভেষজ বৃক্ষরোপণ এবং সেগুলোর সঠিক পরিচর্যা নিশ্চিত করার মাধ্যমেই পরিবেশের ভারসাম্য ফিরিয়ে আনা সম্ভব।

ভূমিকা: প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যের লীলাভূমি বাংলাদেশের পর্যটন শিল্পের সম্ভাবনা অপরিসীম। নদী, সমুদ্র সৈকত, পাহাড়, সুন্দরবন এবং প্রাচীন প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক নিদর্শন এদেশের পর্যটন খাতকে সমৃদ্ধ করেছে।

পর্যটন খাতের সম্ভাবনা: কক্সবাজারের দীর্ঘতম সমুদ্র সৈকত, ম্যানগ্রোভ বন সুন্দরবন, পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামের নৈসর্গিক দৃশ্য এবং সিলেটের চা বাগান দেশি-বিদেশি পর্যটকদের আকর্ষণ করে। এ খাতের সঠিক বিকাশ ঘটলে বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা অর্জন ও ব্যাপক কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টি সম্ভব।

সমস্যাসমূহ: উন্নত যোগাযোগ ও অবকাঠামোর অভাব, পর্যাপ্ত নিরাপত্তার ঘাটতি, দক্ষ গাইডের অভাব, আন্তর্জাতিক মানের বিনোদন ব্যবস্থার অভাব এবং বিশ্বদরবারে সঠিক প্রচারণার ঘাটতি এ শিল্পের প্রধান অন্তরায়।

সম্ভাবনা বাস্তবায়নে করণীয়: পর্যটন কেন্দ্রগুলোর অবকাঠামোগত উন্নয়ন, পর্যটকদের শতভাগ নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিতকরণ, ইকো-ট্যুরিজম গড়ে তোলা এবং ডিজিটাল মাধ্যমে আন্তর্জাতিক প্রচারণা বাড়ানো জরুরি।

উপসংহার: সরকারি ও বেসরকারি সমন্বিত উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে সমস্যাগুলো সমাধান করতে পারলে বাংলাদেশের পর্যটন শিল্প অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নের অন্যতম প্রধান চালিকাশক্তিতে পরিণত হবে।
